Applying essential oils to the body every day in the form of aromatic dressing is one of the best ways we can support our body systems. Giving ourselves an aromatic dressing is a quick and simple way to allow the therapeutic goodness of dōTERRA essential oils harmonize within the cells in our body.
It really is the ultimate form of self care. I have been giving myself an aromatic dressing every day for the last 2 years and have reaped the most incredible health benefits from this practice.
- Listen to your body and what it needs ie. if you’re not well, you might select oils for immune support.
- Select your essential oils, and in a small ceramic, glass, or wooden dish, add a tablespoon of carrier oil or unscented body lotion (I prefer Fractionated coconut oil). Select a total of 5 drops of essential oils of your choice.
- After you shower in the morning and or at night, apply the oil to your entire body, starting at your feet and in large circular motions, work your way up towards your heart. This acts as a pump for your lymphatic system, and aids in circulation and detoxification of the body.
Here is my list of some of favourite oils for for aromatic dressing. Select 5 drops total, and don’t be afraid to experiment with different ratios!
Sleep Support: Lavender, Cedarwood, Vetiver, Lavender Peace (Serenity), Frankinsence
Immune Support: Onguard, Oregano, Lemon, Tea Tree, Frankincense
Stress Support: Frankincense, Balance, Peace, Lavender, Roman Chamomile, Lavender Peace
Respiratory Support: Easy Air, Frankincense, Lemon and Cypress
Energising and Uplifting: Peppermint, Wild Orange, Lemon, Spearmint
Emotional Balance: Siberian Fir, Bergaomt, Frankincense, Peace, Green Mandarin, Cheer, Balance
Hormonal Support: Clary Sage, Ylang Ylang, Sandalwood, Thyme
Meditaion and Prayer: Frankincense
Tension: Peppermint, Lavender, Past Tense, Ylang Ylang
Focus and Concentration: Peppermint, Lemon, Rosemary
Pain Support: Frankincense, Copiaba, Lavender, Peppermint, Ice Blue

Keep in mind citrus essential oils (except Green Mandarin) are photosensitive meaning you can be susceptible to sunburn after applying them topically.
I would not suggest you aromatically dress all over the body in high doses of hot oils such as Clove Bud, Cassia, Cinnamon Bud, Oregano, Wintergreen or Ice Blue/Deep Blue. Wintergreen and Ice Blue are safe on the skin diluted but these are more for aches, contraction (pain). You can apply high menthol content oils such as Wintergreen, Peppermint, Ice (Deep) Blue (for even more effect with a drop or two of Frankincense) or herbaceous oils such as Rosemary, Marjoram, Basil, Oregano, or the pepper family combined with Lemongrass to the affected area and base of the spine. Further, add Copaiba and Frankincense to magnify the effects of other essential oils.
Children and babies can also benefit from aromatic dressing. Dilute accordingly, 2.5 drop of essential oils for children and 1 drop total for babies per 10ml of carrier oil.
