Stress. Yep, I’m talking about stress. Take a deep breathe, and think about how you can feel your feet on the ground, it works, right? Well, for a second at least! Stress is something that happens to all of us, but what is stress? Stress is a hormonal response from the body that starts with a part of your brain called the Hypothalamus. When you’re stressed, this guy sends signals throughout your nervous system and to your kidneys. Your kidneys (yep, I had no idea stress was related to kidneys either) then releases stress hormones including adrenaline and cortisol.
Stress can cause a number of problems, and I’m not just talking about procrastinating from tasks or running late to something. Stress can make you shaky, dizzy, hot, sweaty, distrust your sleeping, give you headaches, effect your libido, mess up your menstrual cycles, give you high blood pressure, make your skin break out, give you digestive problems, make you grumpy and sad.. I could go on. Over time, stress can be very detrimental to our health, and according to the National Institute of Mental Health, stress can increase your risk of mental health issues.
So.. how do we deal with stress? It’s important that we know how to manage stress, whether that means seeing a professional to work out the best ways to cope, or talking to your partner, spending some time by yourself or taking a step back from commitments. I make sure that I am doing at least 30mins of exercise a day (yes, that does count chasing after toddlers), and get outside at some point to just breathe in some fresh air.
My life is jammed packed, but I make it priority to look after myself, because I need to be my best self for my family. It’s also super important to nourish our bodies with the right foods! I also turn to my oil. A lot. My favourite oils to deal with stress are Frankincense, Siberian Fir, Wild Orange, Geranium, Lavender and Bergamot. I make a rollerball blend with a combination of these oils, top it up with FCO and keep it in my handbag at all times. I also diffuse Peace when not only am I feeling a little stressed, but my toddler is also a little bit worked up.
There are so many options out there for stress, so never feel alone. Always reach out if you are feeling overworked, tired + burnt out. What oils are your go to when you’re feeling a little stressed out?
